Question from Ali Donaldson : Looking for anyone interested in selling their own made products from the Fleurieu region. I'd love to find more non-child products so blacksmiths, bee keepers, bread makers, sculpters, etc are especially welcome as is anyone with a curious/quirky product! I also started having buskers at the last market which was very well received, so any local talent is welcome to apply too!!

Update from Ali Donaldson : Held the 3rd Fig Tree Market on Sunday and I had put in place loads of suggestions including lots (2000) letterbox drops, signage on all major roads in and out of the area, A4 posters in shop windows, flyers on shop counters, an ad in the local paper, flyers in each parent's pigeon hole at local childcare centres, flyers on community boards, lovely big flags to draw attention to the location and it was a lovely day (about 32 degrees) but the market was quiet :( I felt quite sad and disillusioned at the close of the day and felt I had let the stallholders down somehow. I am sure it is simply a matter of time before people get into the swing of it, but still it feels hard when I put my heart into it and then it is so quiet :( People were saying they didn't know it was on etc, so I'm guessing that means more advertising is needed. So with school going back I'm going to get into school and kindy newsletters, try and find an angle for the local paper to run an article on the market and try new ideas out. :)

Question from Ali Donaldson : Would love some advice on seeking business sponsorship for my market! I have one small business who donates enough to cover my letterbox drop flyers but that is all. Do I establish some sort of sponsorship package for new sponsors, what should I offer them as a reward and what amounts do businesses sponsor? Thanks team!!

Update from Ali Donaldson : Ah ha! Just found the 'Post an Update" button!!!! So the Dec market went well, except that it absolutely bucketed down with rain and that kept most people at home :( Not good for a tourist town! I have the next market coming up on Jan 22nd and I need it to go really well to keep the stall holders happy! (And me!!) I'm letterbox dropping all this week so hopefully I'll get some good numbers through the door!

Advice from Bagsalot Shoppingbags to Ali Donaldson : Spend some money on marketing and get a stall at the craft fair where you certainly would get noticed.

Advice from Bagsalot Shoppingbags to Ali Donaldson : Love the idea, go to all types of markets and fairs and source out those who make their own things and quietly pass them a card if they are interested.
